Doug
Status: Available
Cockapoo • Male • 18 months • 14" to the shoulder
Doug is a high-energy pocket rocket who craves attention most of the time.
He loves playing and would love a home with another playful dog. Doug loves going on walks. He brings his lead and harness when he wants to let you know it's walkies time and is nonstop from start to finish. His recall is improving as he gets more familiar with his carers. Doug can pull on the lead, is strong and will bounce about and attempt to pull out of his harness/ collar. This should improve over time and consistent training as he is a fast learner.
Doug gets very distressed in the car. He will refuse to get in the car and has to be picked up, will attempt to get out, cry all the time and is double secured as he has managed to get out of the harness. He would be better in a crate but still becomes very distressed travelling and does not settle.
He also does not cope with being left alone, even with other dogs. He gets distressed and is very needy. He suffers an element of separation anxiety and attaches to one person and will get upset if they leave till they return ( although this has improved in foster with work over attaching to one person) but does not cope with being left (barks, whines and gets very anxious)
At home, Doug is very affectionate and loves cuddles, but he does like attention most of the time, bringing his ball to be thrown or toys to be played with. He rarely plays with other dogs in the home.
Doug needs a home where there are no young children or visiting young children as he has shown potential to snap at children in the past, and he does not cope with lots of noise or busy homes... he has settled better in a quiet, calm house.
Doug is a good boy at the vets and loves visiting for hugs (even after the distress of travelling in the car)
Doug has a healthy appetite. He was a little underweight when arriving in foster but has put on the weight. He gets an upset stomach if he eats meat in jelly.
He does like to bark to warn there is someone about but soon settles. He also likes to dig and do his own type of gardening. He loves to bring your slippers, but watch out that they are not relocated in the garden with your socks.
Doug would like a dog-savvy, quiet, calm home with lots of high-energy walks, but near everything so he doesn't have to go in the car too much.
